La presse en parle… Millésime 2023 – Château Domeyne

Château Domeyne 2023 – Saint-Estèphe

  • 91-92 – James Suckling (avril 2024)
Juicy and vivid with good acidity and fine tannins. Medium-bodied with a firm structure and a lengthy, meaty aftertaste. It should come together nicely.
  • 91 – Jane Anson (Bordeaux Inside)
Bright En Primeur character, kicking off with raspberry, wild strawberries, black cherry, a little austere with firm tannic architecture, set to grow into itself over ageing. 30% new oak. Yield 52hl/ha. Harvest 25 September.
  • 88 – Neal Martin (Vinous, avril 2024)
The 2023 Domeyne has a rather surly and backward nose that needs to come out of its shell by the time of bottling. It’s just a bit conservative in the context of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with an approachable, fleshy opening. It’s a different wine than the aromatics would suggest.
  • 91-92 – RVF (Olivier Poels, avril 2024)
  • 91-93 – The Drinks Business (Colin Hay, avril 2024)
60% Cabernet Sauvignon; 40% Merlot; from a vineyard of 9 hectares on gravel and clay soil purchased by Vincent Ginestet from Claire and Gonzague Lurton in 2006; a final yield of 52 hl/ha; Eric Boissenot is the consultant here. Tasted in Bordeaux from a sample supplied by Boissenot Consulting. This is lighter in extraction than most, and rather more blue-purple in both hue and fruit profile. Oh, I love it! It’s very floral – we could almost be in Margaux – a character, in a way, of this vintage. Wisteria and peony but then that deep, dark earthy, slight austerity of the appellation to remind you where this hails from. A little trace of graphite too and a waft of cedar. Excellent. A lovely touch, a gentle harmony and lots of finesse. A revelation. I’m so pleased I got to taste this.
  • 91-92 – Alexandre Ma (avril 2024)
Château Domeyne 2023 impeccably captures the structural essence of Saint-Estèphe, displaying a poised and weightless framework. The fruitiness is mature yet with a touch of individuality, making it one of the best-performing vintages in recent years. The tannins of this vintage reveal themselves early on, but with the velvety assistance of blackberry and blackcurrant, they swiftly evolve into a refined and rich texture. For those intending to enjoy this wine in its youth, it’s recommended to decant for at least 30 minutes after opening.
